Guardian Home Program

We will be looking for at least 2 guardian homes in the next few months(most likely sometime in April-June. For 1 possibly 2 females. If interested please reach out to fill out an application.

We believe that all of our dogs should live inside as members of the family. With that being said we cannot keep all of them here, and we prefer they live their entire life with their family so they are getting individual attention.

By using guardian homes we can carefully plan our litters, and the dogs all are loved by not only our family but their forever home when they retire.

Approved Guardian Homes would be provided our pick of the litter puppy or adult dog that we decide will be an addition to our breeding program.  This puppy/dog would be provided free of charge. These dogs do not actually enter our breeding program until at least 2 years old and all health and genetic testing is completed. Once it is completed they are normally only in our breeding program for 2 years (sometimes less) for females and up to 4 years for males, then they are spayed/neutered (we pay for this at our vet), and then the dog is fully signed over to their guardian home.

We cover any and all costs associated with breeding, guardian families are only responsible for normal vaccinations, flea/tick preventative, heartworm preventative, and providing an amazing home. Female Guardian home families are compensated per puppy, once the litter has gone to their new home. Male guardian home families are compensated per litter once the litter has gone to their new homes.

Being a guardian home is definitely not for everyone, they do come back to us for health testing appointments, breeding, and then again to whelp the litter. Once the litter is weaned, momma will get a vet check and then be able to go back to her guardian family. Males will only need to come back to us for health/genetic testing and for breeding (a few days). Guardian families must be within driving distance to Willow Tree Berners (17842), as they are responsible for bringing the dog back and forth.

Things to consider before becoming a guardian home

  • Live within 1-2 hours of Willow Tree Berners

  • Be willing to provide basic training as well as housebreaking and crate training. (Crate training is a MUST, dogs are crated here when we are not home as to prevent any disagreements between them when we are not here and if they are not crate trained it can be much harder on them when they visit)

  • Must live in your home as a pet, and we prefer a fenced in yard due to keeping them safe when they are in heat. (All other dogs in the home of the opposite gender must be fixed)

  • Must provide us with access to the dog for testing, breeding, whelping or any other care required. (which does require access to visit your home if needed)

  • Must contact us incase of serious accident or injury or if you are no longer able to keep the dog

  • In the event you can no longer keep the dog, it MUST be returned to Willow Tree Berners.

If you think you would be a good candidate for our guardian home program, please reach out to us to fill out an application.
